Well, I just made the move to Chicago and we won't have internet installed until January 6th! So right now I am at my local coffee shop using their $3.99 two-hour-block wireless internet. There won't be any Tuesday Top 10 this week, so I decided to post a few items from my favorites list... some of them are actually scheduled to be on a Tuesday Top 10 list!
I hope you all had very happy holidays, and I wish you all a very happy new year!
Just a public-service announcement: I am having a one-day, last-chance holiday sale in both of my shops, today only. All items in my Holiday Section are reduced in price, and they also feature free shipping to anywhere in the U.S., as well as reduced global shipping. This is a fabulous opportunity to stock up for next year, and I will ship as late as Christmas Eve, 12/24/08 by 5:00 PM EST.
This year, as last year, I took the handmade pledge. I pledged to only buy handmade gifts for my friends and family. This year it wasn't so hard to do that; I had been itching to do holiday baking for quite a while, and it has been my experience that home-baked goods are ALWAYS appreciated!
I made little gift boxes filled with personalized sugar cookies, chocolate chunk candy cane cookies, colorful coconut macaroons, and mint chocolate dipped spoons for all of my family members:
As for my husband and I, we had our first child in October and we decided that she was our Christmas gift to each other. Since 2 month olds don't even really know what is going on at Christmas, I only got her a few presents. All of the following were made by Etsy artists for my baby girl:
The first gift is by BeanPickleSprout. I had been a fan of her work for a while, so when I got pregnant I couldn't wait to actually buy from my favorites list and have been saving this bib for a year now. I think the cuteness factor makes it worth the wait to use :)
The next gift is a lovely book and puppet set by MFCrafts. It is very important to me for my baby to have books and be familiar with them, and what better way to get young children interested than with a puppet they can play with that is in the story?
The last gift was made for me by the sweetest and one of the most talented artists I've met on Etsy. AppleandEve makes lovely cotton and linen embroidered toys, and she made this bird especially for me. I had her embroider the back to say, "for baby" as a special keepsake for my baby. I had justs found out that I was going to have Madeleine when this birdie was made, so it is very special to me:
Well, that's my story of our simple and fun handmade Christmas this year. You will never regret supporting the artists on Etsy or knowing the person who made the gifts for your child!
