Gray. Brown. Gray and brown. Kind of gross. Sounds like some dirty old mud puddle. I never thought these two colors could work... but I think I found a way. It's not just anywhere, either; it's in my living room.
I have gray walls, gray curtains, and a gray rug. My furniture is a tweedy tan color, and I have gold and bronze accent pillows. I SWEAR to you I am not insane, though. This color collection may not be for everyone, but it works for me.
The secret to having gray and brown in a room together is an accent color that compliments them both. I chose shades of orange, particularly, tangerine.
I found this fantastic shade of tangerine fabric to make accent pillows with, and while it doesn't match my orange hounds tooth foot stool, I actually do like the way they look together.
I love the warm orange and brown tones together...
But I also love the orange and cooler greys together. I even love the cooler grey against the warm wood floor.
So I'm curious... do you have any non-traditional color combinations in your home? What are they?

My kitchen has a lot of aqua and red, which makes people go eww for some reason, but i think they are poppy and optimistic feeling together. I also have an almost neon pink velour sofa, which is shocking to people when I tell them, but it's fantastic, you can't help but smile when you see it. ! I love it that you are not dictating the colors of your house based on "what's in." Certain things just work, and work forever like your combination above. OH ALSO: I LOVE your orange footstool.
ReplyDeleteWow - a neon pink velour sofa sounds amazing! I would totally have that in my home. :) You're so amazing with home decor - I really appreciate the encouragement!
