If you know me in-person, you know that I am a (big. Huge?) fan of the Little House series by Laura Ingalls Wilder. There is a project described (very briefly) in the first book, Little House in the Big Woods. It's Christmas Eve, and Laura's aunt, uncle, and cousins have come to stay with the Ingalls family. On Christmas morning they awake to simple, but deeply appreciated, gifts. The kids receive red knit mittens and peppermint sticks; Laura receives a rag doll; and Ma receives an apple, studded with cloves, from Laura's aunt.
Growing up I thought this was a strange gift, but now as an adult who appreciates a nice smelling home in the fall, the idea is simply perfect. After years of meaning to get around to it, I finally tried this apple and clove pomander project. I've shared the full tutorial - with pictures - today on Citrus and Cream.
In the meantime, I do have one little gift for you here. If you wish to make these pomanders now and give them as holiday gifts, I've created some printable tags and labels for you to download for free!
